Work Area

Grand Home Care offers quality care in an individuals home environment.




The service can provide 24 hour care within a home environment.





The service provides individual support for the clients to enable them to achieve as much Independence as possible in their daily lives.







Clients are supported to take part in activities both in their homes and in the community. Integration with the local community is encouraged.






Staff provide a holistic, person centred approach to care, taking into account the individual needs and preferences of each resident, encouraging them to reach their full potential.




Respite and Sitter Service

Respite Service

  • Respite care is provided for people to give you or your carer a break. Respite care can be:
  • Given within your home environment for a number of hours each day. If longer is required this would be discussed at the commencement of the contract of care.

  • Support with activities

  • Sitting Service - Day and Night Sits


We can provide a 'rolling programme' of care over the year, for example one weekend every month. It can be a one off period of short term care, for example when your family carer goes on holiday.

All care packages are reviewed regularly to make sure that you receive the best service available for you.


Sitting Service - Day and Night

The Sitting Service provides personal care and social stimulation within the client’s home and community and this also allows respite for carers on an evening basis. We play board games, carry out craft activities, go out into the community for walks, drinks, snacks and listen to music. It is very much up to the client to decide what they want to do. We are also able to offer memory retention games and mental exercises for clients suffering from Dementia or Alzeimers.


We are able to provide the following services in addition to those mentioned above:



Cleaning 25

Learning and Training

All new staff receive Induction Training when they join the service. This outlines the principles of care and explains the role of the Care Worker.

The Induction also covers safety at work and how to communicate effectively. An important aspect of this training is how to respond to abuse and neglect and what procedure is to be followed.

Care Workers also receive training for specific essential areas such as Medication, Fire Safety, Food Hygiene and Dealing with Challenging Behaviour to name but a few.



27The service also provides the environment for staff to complete the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 2 in Health and Social Care. This is a professional qualification and in addition to improving staff working practice, they also receive a pay increment. The service believes that learning should continue throughout your career and should enable you to develop new skills and open up career options.




Client Group

Our service aims to meet the needs of clients from all sectors in the community living in Gibraltar.

Grand Home Care is recognised for its excellent care and support for people who have complex, challenging or specialist needs.

We provide a tailored range of care services for those who have Learning Disabilities, Physical and Multiple Disabilities, Sensory and Communication Impairments, Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Aspergers Syndrome, Prader-Willi Syndrome, Elderly, Dementia, hospital transition and discharge plans and Alzeimers sufferers.


Parents, Relatives and Friends

With the client's agreement we actively encourage family, friends and representatives to be as involved as possible both in the lives of clients and in the care package that we offer.

We will support clients who find it difficult to maintain contact or visit family and friends. Staff are available to help with phone calls, letters and emails, or to accompany clients during visits.


Who can access our services?

Individuals wishing to access our services must be aged 18 or over. All referrals will have an assessment of need, which states the reasons for the referral or application and the specific services sought, e.g. respite care etc.) Grand Home care is not able to provide nursing care at the present time.

Assessments are usually carried out by a Nurse or Manager of Grand Home Care. We will complete a costing assessment, which will determine the cost of the care per hour based on individual needs.

Each application is given careful consideration by Grand Home Care management and the relevant Care staff. Where there is a match between application and needs assessment, and the availability of a suitable carer the application will be progressed. A final decision is taken after consultation with the client and family members. If agreement is reached to offer the service to the client, an initial action plan is then drawn up to decide the next steps in the process.


The next steps...

Before taking up the service, clients are encouraged to meet with and familiarise themselves with the Carer who will be working with them. After this, if the client wishes to continue with the care package, a programme of care will be arranged for the service they are interested in. With the exception of emergency care this will normally be a visit to introduce you to your Carer.

At this point the client or relative will be asked to sign and abide by a written contract, which details what they can expect from us and what we would expect from them in return. Grand Home Care reserves the right to withdraw care from any client who is in breach of this contract.

Emergency Care

Grand Home Care is aware that under certain circumstances it may be necessary to offer care to a client without a planned or fully structured programme of care. In these situations it is our policy to carry out at least one introductory visit. The purpose of this is to introduce ourselves to the individual and ascertain:

  • The individuals wishes with regard to care package
  • The circumstances precipitating the emergency and any special support or intervention that may be required
  • A brief assessment of need and the suitability of our services
  • Upon placement under these circumstances Grand Home Care will make every effort to ensure:
  • A comprehensive assessment of need is obtained as soon as possible after the initial request for care.
  • Monitor and review the ongoing and future wishes of the client and the continuing suitability of the care package.
